Connect the KVK API Without Code: Zapier and Make.com
Automatically fetch Dutch company data in Zapier or Make.com without writing a single line of code. Practical guide for no-code integrations with the KVKBase API.
Many teams want to process Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KVK) data automatically but have no developer available. With Zapier or Make.com (formerly Integromat), you can connect the KVK API from KVKBase to your own tools without writing a single line of code. This guide shows you how.
What Can You Automate with the KVK API?
The KVKBase API gives you direct access to the Dutch Commercial Register (Handelsregister). Common no-code use cases include:
- CRM enrichment: automatically fill in company name, address, and legal form for new leads
- Customer onboarding: verify that a KVK number is active the moment someone signs up
- Invoice automation: fetch company details as soon as a new order comes in
- Lead scoring: filter newly registered companies by legal form or SBI industry code
Zapier: Connecting KVKBase with a Webhook
Zapier has no native KVKBase integration, but the built-in Webhooks by Zapier action lets you call any REST API. The KVKBase API uses a simple Bearer token and returns JSON, which Zapier handles natively.
Step 1 — Set Up a Trigger
Pick the trigger that fits your workflow:
- New contact in HubSpot → look up the associated KVK number
- New form entry in Typeform → use the submitted KVK number
- New row in Google Sheets → process a bulk list
Step 2 — Add a Webhook Action
Add an action of type Webhooks by Zapier > GET. Fill in the following:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| URL | https://api.kvkbase.nl/api/v1/lookup/{{kvk_number}} |
| Headers | Authorization: Bearer YourApiKey |
Replace {{kvk_number}} with the field from your trigger. Click Test & Continue to verify the API returns a response.
Step 3 — Process the Data
After a successful API call, Zapier automatically parses the JSON response. You now have access to fields such as:
tradeName— the registered trade namelegalForm— legal form (BV, sole trader, foundation, etc.)address.city— city of the registered addressisActive— whether the company is still active
Use these fields in the next step: update a CRM record, send a Slack notification, or write to a spreadsheet.
Make.com: Visual KVK Integration
Make.com uses a visual flow editor and offers a powerful HTTP module that lets you call any API. The end result is the same as Zapier, but Make provides more control over data transformation.
Module 1 — Trigger
Set up your trigger: a new record in Airtable, a webhook from your webshop, or a scheduled run using the timer module.
Module 2 — HTTP Request
Add an HTTP > Make a request module with the following settings:
- URL:
https://api.kvkbase.nl/api/v1/lookup/{{kvk_number}} - Method: GET
- Headers: click Add item, then fill in:
- Name:
Authorization - Value:
Bearer YourApiKey
- Name:
- Parse response: enabled
Make.com parses the JSON response and makes every field available as a separate variable for downstream modules.
Module 3 — Route the Data
You can now pipe company data into:
- Google Sheets — for an internal overview
- HubSpot or Pipedrive — for CRM enrichment
- Gmail or Outlook — to send a notification when an inactive company is found
Company Not Found or Inactive?
The KVKBase API returns a 404 when a KVK number does not exist, and isActive: false when a company has been dissolved. In Make.com, add a Router module to handle two paths: one for active companies and one for dissolved entities. In Zapier, use a Filter by Zapier step to continue the flow only when isActive equals true.
API Key and Limits
You need a free KVKBase API key, which you can request at kvkbase.nl. The free plan is more than enough for prototypes and smaller workflows. When you need more lookups, upgrading to a paid plan takes a single click in the dashboard.
Want to know exactly what the API returns? See the complete KVK number lookup guide or the comparison of the official KVK API and KVKBase.
Summary
With Zapier or Make.com, you can connect the KVK API to your existing tools in minutes, with no code required. All you need is a free KVKBase API key and either platform. The combination is powerful enough for most CRM enrichment, customer onboarding, and compliance workflows that depend on Dutch company data.
